Since I live in California, unfortunately, there is an advantage to having a bolt-action AR15 in that I don’t have to make it fixed mag or featureless. My question is ignoring the obvious downsides of giving up the semi-automatic function, would turning a gas block and effectively plugging the gas port in the barrel increase the pressure and therefore velocity? If so would it be measurable or noticeable? Thanks guys and keep up the great work.

Hi guys. Two questions.

1) Are you familiar with the 38-55 lever action round? It seems like it might be making a bit of a comeback and I thought it might be a decent lever gun round to bridge the gap between the 30-30 and 45-70.

2)in researching the 38-55 a couple days ago (let’s be honest, it will have been six months ago by the time this question is read) I found a YouTube channel called Sagebrush Longshots that appears to be a bunch of guys that make a habit of pushing cowboy guns out to long range. 45 colt Winchester 73 at 400-600 yards. 38-55 Winchesters and marlins going to 900 plus. And then 45-70 single shots out to over 1000. It looks incredibly fun to me. Do any of you (read Jeremy) have experience with this kind of long range shooting with old west guns?”
