It seeks to halt the distribution and impose civil penalties under California’s assault weapons and unsafe handgun laws.
- New Mexico House Bill 82: Democrats Advance Broadest Gun Ban in US
New Mexico House Democrats are poised to pass House Bill 82 this week, which would ban dozens of semi-automatic firearms including AR-15s, AK-47s, and many handguns. - DOJ Amicus Brief in Support of Challenge to Massachusetts Handgun Roster (Savage)
The U.S. Department of Justice filed an amicus curiae brief in a federal lawsuit challenging Massachusetts’ handgun roster law, arguing that the Attorney General’s authority to ban handguns lacking arbitrary safety features violates the Second Amendment. The brief, submitted in the case Reese v. Department of Revenue, contends that the roster effectively prohibits most modern handguns by imposing subjective loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect requirements not justified by public safety data. It cites post-Bruen precedents to assert that Massachusetts’ scheme fails constitutional scrutiny.
- Oregon Democrats Propose Two-Year Delay for Permit-to-Purchase Law (HB 2005) (Savage)
Oregon Democrats are advancing a proposal to delay the implementation of the state’s new permit-to-purchase handgun law, HB 2005, from its original August 2026 start date to August 2028. Observers interpret it as a potential sign of reputation rehabilitation for the NRA Foundation.
- Arizona’s HB 2763 Spells Doom for Public Shooting Ranges (Savage)
Arizona’s HB 2763 mandates costly lead abatement measures at public shooting ranges, effectively forcing their closure due to prohibitive expenses. The legislation requires ranges to capture and remove all lead from backstops and berms, with compliance deadlines that smaller public facilities cannot meet. This quiet regulatory shift threatens to eliminate access to public shooting venues across the state.
- Gun Buybacks Go Global: Naive Hopes Bad Guys Will Comply
An article critiques international gun buyback programs, highlighting their failure to address criminals who won’t participate. It points to examples from the UK, Australia, and Canada where such efforts have not reduced crime rates and often ignore the reality that law-abiding citizens disarm while criminals retain weapons. The piece argues these policies stem from a flawed belief in voluntary compliance from bad actors.

President Trump has withdrawn the United States from the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), a decision announced via Truth Social that fulfills a long-standing campaign promise. The ATT, ratified by over 100 countries but never approved by the US Senate, aimed to regulate international arms sales with provisions critics argued could infringe on Second Amendment rights. This action reverses any prior engagements under the Obama administration and signals a staunch pro-gun policy stance.
- 4th Circuit Upholds Most of Maryland’s Sweeping ‘Sensitive Places’ Gun Ban
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the majority of Maryland’s law banning firearms in numerous ‘sensitive places’ like parks, theaters, stadiums, and government buildings. The panel ruled 2-1 that these restrictions align with historical traditions of firearm regulation and do not violate the Second Amendment under the Bruen framework. Only the bans in libraries, grocery stores, and medical facilities were struck down as overbroad.

Savage would be affected. This is to take effect in July of 2027 IF passed
