Jeremy  Reads

Five Stars from Dr ScaryGuy: This show is mostly a bunch of dudes yelling at each other, waving guns around, and making bad jokes with their mental disorders on full display. Also, physical disorders are frequently mentioned, referenced, and explained in dreadful ways. Despite how much these guys fight, and how much we wish they would kill each other and then their selves, they always manage to make up. I assume lots of kissing is involved, but not on the mouth. Thanks for being great examples of how to politely treat the autists and slow folks like Aaron. See the able, not the label.

Five Stars from SwampVision: This show is worthy of 5 stars and more if allowed. The cast reminds me of the Venture Brothers cast and their crazy antics, irrelevance and irreverence. Shawn is clearly Dr. Rusty Venture, never loved by his father and seeking to create his fortune using his immense knowledge. Jeremy is Brock Samson; Bodyguard, a fan of violence and generally the imposing presence of the cast. Aaron is the Monarch; generally viewed as the villan and always trailing after Dr. Venture and generally ineffective. Nick is Necromancer Dr. Orpheus as he rents a portion of the compound from Dr. Venture and often disappears for no reason into the void but displays competence in many situations. Savage is H.E.L.P.eR. bot; sometimes there, drones on in beeps and boops and is overall not a real member of the cast.

Five Stars from Brent: long time listener first time reviewer really enjoy the show aarons double standards and wishy washy antics get old but i get enjoyment listening to jeremy rant on. This show is basically my main source of what’s going on in the industry look forward to the show each week.

What is an Amicus Brief?

An amicus brief is a document that someone who is not directly involved in a case submits to the court. This person or group, known as an amicus curiae (Latin for “friend of the court”), offers information, expertise, or insights that may help the court make a more informed decision.

  • Importance: Amicus briefs can be important because they provide additional perspectives and arguments that the parties directly involved in the case might not present. They help the judges understand the broader implications of their decisions and consider how the ruling might affect other people or organizations.

What is a Writ of Certiorari?

A writ of certiorari is an order that a higher court issues to a lower court to review the lower court’s decision. It’s often abbreviated as “cert.”

  • Simplified Explanation: Imagine you didn’t like a decision made by a lower court, so you ask a higher court to take another look at the case. When the higher court agrees to review it, they issue a writ of certiorari.
  • Importance: It’s important because it means the higher court, like the U.S. Supreme Court, thinks the case is significant enough to reconsider. Without a writ of certiorari, the lower court’s decision stands.

Example: Second Amendment Foundation Amicus Brief

In the example you provided:

  • The Second Amendment Foundation filed an amicus brief to support Christopher L. Wilson.
  • Wilson is challenging the Hawaii state Supreme Court’s decision that people in Hawaii do not have the right to carry firearms for self-defense outside their homes.
  • The foundation’s brief aims to provide additional arguments and perspectives to support Wilson’s case.
  • Wilson is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to issue a writ of certiorari, meaning he wants the Supreme Court to review and potentially overturn the Hawaii Supreme Court’s decision.

Summary

  1. Amicus Brief: A helpful document from a “friend of the court” to provide extra information.
  2. Writ of Certiorari: A higher court’s decision to review a lower court’s ruling.

Case Example: The Second Amendment Foundation supports Christopher L. Wilson’s challenge to Hawaii’s firearm carrying restrictions by filing an amicus brief and seeking a writ of certiorari from the U.S. Supreme Court.
