In your last episode about prepping you didn’t cover comms. That is something vital to have as part of your gear.

Main Topic

For this show we are going to talk about vehicles that would do well for bugging out & have some fun talking about apocalypse rigs too.

A bug out vehicle can be anything that helps get you from point A to B more efficiently than walking. You would need something to transport your gear & supplies if you have to leave your house. Bugging in is usually the best option but that isn’t always the case. Especially if you live in a densely populated area.

Radio Flyer wagon/shopping cart

Horse or pack animal

Bicycle/mountain bike

Motorcycle/quad

Passenger car

Truck/SUV (could be pulling a trailer)

Bus/motorhome

Military rig

Boat

Air plane

Most vehicles will work for any situation but there are scenarios that might cause some to not work.

Vehicle congestion, heavy car traffic, broken down or out of fuel vehicles

  • Walking & pulling wagon
  • Horse
  • Bicycle
  • Motorcycle
  • Truck with reinforced bumper
  • Military rig with reinforced bumper

Blocked roads, need to drive around obstacles

  • Walking & pulling wagon
  • Horse
  • Bicycle
  • Motorcycle
  • AWD/4WD

Large group of people

  • Walking & pulling wagons
  • SUV
  • Truck with trailer
  • Bus
  • Motorhome
  • Military rig

Unpaved roads, natural disaster damaging infrastructure

  • Walking & pulling wagon
  • Horse
  • Bicycle
  • Motorcycle
  • AWD/4WD
  • Military rig

EMP, Electromagnetic Pulse which damages computer chips & other electronics

  • Walking & pulling wagon
  • Horse
  • Bicycle
  • Older carburetor motorcycle
  • Older carburetor car or truck
  • Military vehicles that come EMP proof

Clearly having a horse is your best option. They are faster than walking, can haul your gear, & are EMP proof. Start contacting the landlord of your apartment complex to see if they mind if you keep a horse in the spare bedroom.

All jokes aside, you have to pick what you think suits your current situation & what world event might happen.

Speaking of world changing events. Let’s talk about building an apocalypse vehicle. This would be a rig that you would build after a cataclysmic event happened that brought the whole world to its knees. Everyone is just trying to survive. There are roving gangs out there looting & pillaging that you need protection from. Travel is necessary to meet up with other colonies for trade.
