Topic Section – Can last as little as 10-15 minutes if we cover it that fast: Let’s talk LPVOs and hunting!
- Versatility: LPVOs (Low-Powered Variable Optics) typically offer magnification ranges from 1x to 6x, 8x, or even 10x. This versatility allows hunters to engage targets at various distances without needing to switch optics. For example, you can use the 1x setting for close-range shots in dense brush and quickly dial up the magnification for longer shots across open fields.
- Quick Target Acquisition: At the 1x setting, an LPVO functions much like a red dot sight, providing a wide field of view and allowing for both-eyes-open shooting. This is crucial for fast-moving game or when you need to quickly transition between targets. The illuminated reticle often found in LPVOs also aids in rapid target acquisition, especially in low-light conditions.
- Precision at Distance: When you need to take a precise shot at a longer distance, the higher magnification settings of an LPVO come into play. This is particularly useful for hunting in open terrains where you might spot game at a distance. The ability to zoom in and clearly see your target can make a significant difference in shot placement and overall success.
- Durability: LPVOs are often constructed from high-quality materials like aircraft-grade aluminum, making them rugged and able to withstand harsh hunting environments. They are designed to be shockproof, waterproof, and fog-proof, ensuring reliable performance in various weather conditions.
- Low-Light Performance: Many LPVOs come with illuminated reticles, which can be a game-changer during dawn or dusk hunts when lighting conditions are less than ideal. The illumination helps in maintaining a clear sight picture, and the good eye relief ensures you can quickly get on target without straining your eyes.
- Single Optic Solution: Instead of carrying multiple optics for different scenarios, an LPVO can serve as a one-size-fits-all solution. This simplifies your gear setup, reduces weight, and makes your hunting experience more streamlined. You can easily switch between different magnification levels to adapt to changing situations in the field.

Personal Gear Chat and Updates:
Mike
- Guardian report
- Doves will maybe get shot. I’ll bring my gopro.
Taking the child with me, hopefully her eyes are better for dropped birds. - Already talked about gear we will be camping with last weekend.
Dave
- Guardian 1-8 use the other night cuz bears
Sam
- Took the Guardian LPVO 1-8x ffp out for another range session.
- Have eclipsed 510 rounds.
- Did some stress testing, broke the optic, but only broke it a little bit. Dented the housing but didn’t seem to incur any serious internal damage. Can still see through the optic at all magnification ranges, held a 1” group, didn’t notice any noticeable shift in POI.
- The little screw-in knob for the magnification ring sheared off in the safe. I think my AKs might have jumped it when I put things in the crowded gun safe.
- So far, so good! Pleasantly pleased that the optic is still usable.
Vince
- I shot some more clays with the boy using the 20 ga this time
- I somehow got convinced to dig a pond
- For
- Freaking
- Ducks
- I bought some things and got some cool shit in the mail
- Ordered a new gasblock for the Guardian test rifle after the fiasco from last time.
- It ‘tings’ noticeably, but Riflespeed support said thats normal
- Hiking with the wife at Beavers Bend State Park for her birthday, Airbnb, mini golf in Hochatown, Lower Mountain Fork River, Broken Bow Lake
- Covered 1300feet of elevation on a 4 mile hike
- Plenty of smaller wildlife, but very hot out, no big game around
- Spider attacks
- I found a magical box
- Good place to bring up any news and legal updates surrounding hunting?
