Let’s Go Hunt 065 – Washyosister Sauce: Athlon BTR Gen 2 2-12×42 scopes, merginal meals, and smol boats.

Welcome back to another episode of Let’s Go Hunt! – the everyman’s hunting and outdoor podcast.. We aren’t experts, but we’re out there doing it. Join us on our journey!  As always we have:

Mike Gonçalves, chef of merginal quality

Vince Hall, who is getting loaded but not in the good Las Vegas way

Sam Alexander, no longer subject to the requirements of jury duty

And I’m

Dave Packard, liver seeker

Tonight!!  Cooking! Off Roading! Reloading!  Snow! And able to see them all in decent detail from moderate distances, scopes!

Mike

  • I cooked the merganser.   A half a can of beef broth, some squirts of sour cream (heh), garlic, chopped onion, mushroom, half a bottle of marsala, some dabs of WAshyoursisitersauce.  Salt and Pepper to taste, some sprinkles of paprika.
  • Important notes: it did NOT taste like fish.  That’s not to say it wasn’t fish smelly beforehand.  But the brining and draining seemed to really work out.  Also, I did a ton of research into how to not make this taste gross.  The trick seemed to be either eat it as sashimi…not sure how to feel about that yet.  Or slow cook.  Heat seems to activate the fats that make it gross.  So, slow cook for the win.
  • Poked the dudes at Off Road Podcast on the FRN for some tips about the Prado.
He recommended Ironman, who I’d already been lookin at and already makes stuff Prado specific.  Upon Dave’s recommendation, I looked into a storage drawer.  Turns out Ironman makes drawers too; a single drawer of which might fit perfectly back there. I bet lots of stuff fits perfectly back there

  • The Offroad Podcast
    • Is good
  • Finally got more snow

Sam

  • After some back and forth I decided to go with Vince’s recommendation on the Athlon BTR Gen 2 2-12x42mm.
  • First impressions are pretty good so far.
    • Glass seems decent, especially for the price ratio.
    • Good, clean MIL reticle.
    • Turrets are gtg.
    • My thoughts so far are that this will make a good hunting rifle scope/optic for shots in the 300-500 yard range, maybe even further.

Vince

  • I have been reloading to stock back up on my blasting ammo after a couple seasons of competitions
  • Took a walk with the thermal this evening. I’m learning how to discern between different critters
  • VDSM
  • I builts some model ships. This has nothing to do with the show, I just think they’re cool
