Listener Paul’s experience with the Taurus TX22:

Firstly I’d like to say that the TX22 has really changed the rimfire market and it’s a superb little pistol so long as it works. I may have had too high of expectations for it and taurus. but this is my experience:

my disappointing story of my tx22. I purchased it right when they were released after getting to play with one at NRA annual meetings in 2019. I used the pistol in a few 22 steel matches and found my accuracy to be getting worse, I’d heard of the barrels leading up in addition to the rifling not being correct. mine did have evidence of leading so I contacted taurus to find out if in fact i had an issue and inquired about the expected accuracy of the pistol. I was told it would be comparable to my Ruger MK2. After that I had a fairly high expectation. I got on the waiting list for a new barrel and  it took about 3 weeks to a month to arrive  if memory serves. went and tried it out and sure enough it started leading after a few hundred rounds. contacted taurus again got on the list for another barrel, this took 4-5 weeks (approximately). That barrel wound up having a riffling issue, but no leading. I think there was another barrel shipped but can’t honestly remember. I had contacted Taurus again and they had looked at the number of barrels shipped and decided that I should send it in it. I was advised that it would take up to 5 weeks for repair to which I agreed. I had called after the 5 week wait and was informed that I was never told 5 weeks, it would be 3 months. I informed them that I’d like a new pistol issued and that there was something wrong with mine to which they said they’d decide that once it was on a bench. I received my pistol back in the 3 month window (giving them benefit of doubt, pretty sure it was a week longer) and found my accuracy was still comparable to the last barrel, but I had also developed a cycling issue. I sold it to a friend that runs his own shop for 50$.

The TX22 is an amazing little handgun that I wanted to love but unfortunately their customer service ruined my experience. I hope all those that own them have a much different story than I did
