Comedy
Mom was browsing in a store when a saleswoman offered assistance. Mom admitted she didn’t have anything particular in mind, and the pair started chatting. The woman quickly learned that Mom was retired. Interested, she confessed that she, too, was considering retirement. Mom immediately started telling her how much she liked no longer working and how the saleswoman would enjoy it too. Finally, convinced by Mom’s enthusiasm, she asked, “How long have you been retired?” Mom said, “This is my first day.”

On this day in History:
Armistice Day: World War I ends

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Great War ends. At 5 a.m. that morning, Germany, bereft of manpower and supplies and faced with imminent invasion, signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car outside Compiégne, France. The First World War left nine million soldiers dead and 21 million wounded, with Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary, France and Great Britain each losing nearly a million or more lives. In addition, at least five million civilians died from disease, starvation, or exposure.

Bible Verse

Of David. Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; Psalms 144:1-2

Main Topic

Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars, and Veterans Day 2022 will occur on Friday, November 11. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.”

Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day.

Armed Citizen
Milwaukee, Mich., mother and homeowner defended her children when an alleged intruder made his way inside her home on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022.

While in the shower that morning, she heard her 12- and 14-year-old children screaming from the living room. Upon hearing the noise, the mother quickly rushed to her bedroom, retrieved a pistol and ran into the hallway to confront the threat. Once in the hallway, she discovered a stranger inside her home, acting erratically, with her two pitbulls already engaging the trespasser. The intruder, who appeared to be in his late 30s, despite the two dogs on him, continued his advance deeper into the home. As the mother recalled, “…he wouldn’t stop coming.”

Fearing for her safety, but most of all for her children’s safety, the mother opened fire on the intruder, killing him in the process. Initially detained by police for questioning, she was later released after questioning. The woman had purchased her gun a decade ago, after discovering a man sleeping under her son’s bed.  “I knew I’d be able to do it,” she said. “To protect my kids.” (tmj4.com, Milwaukee, Mich., 08/18/2022)
