Sunday Fish Tale

A boy came late to Sunday School. Knowing he was usually very prompt, his teacher asked, “Johnny, is there anything wrong?”

“No, ma’am, not really,” he said.”I was going to go fishing, but my dad told me that I needed to get on up and go to church.” The teacher was very impressed and asked Johnny if his father had explained why it was more important to go to church than go fishing.

“Yes ma’am, he did,” Johnny said. “My daddy said he didn’t have enough bait for both of us.”

Bible Verse

‘I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.’

Armed Citizen
A Chicago Lawn resident in Chicago, Ill., defended himself when he was confronted by an armed thug on Dec. 3, 2021.
The 37-year-old resident was in an alleyway around 7 a.m. that Friday morning, when he got into a verbal altercation with a man in a vehicle that had pulled down the alleyway. As the dispute continued, the man in the vehicle produced a pistol. In response to the sudden threat, the resident, who had a valid FOID and Illinois concealed-carry license, drew his own concealed handgun.
The resident then opened fire at the armed crook, striking him while he was still in the vehicle. The offender was pronounced dead at the scene when authorities arrived, and the resident was uninjured during the incident. Due to the nature of the incident and the fact that he had a valid CCL, the resident was not charged. (chicagojurnal.com, Chicago, Ill., 12/03/2021)
